15 month well-visit

Making their cozy coupe even cozier
I think this is the longest I have gone without a new blog entry.  I have to admit that I am having some mixed feelings about blogging-- I still like the idea of my blog being like a pregnancy journal and baby book for my boys, and I do like that family and friends who are far away have the opportunity to see what we are up to.  But I am no longer entirely comfortable with the fact that this blog is public, and that anyone can read it.  I am thinking of making my blog private, but we'll see.

Today the boys went for their 15 month well visit at the pediatrician.  Asher weighed 23 pounds, 12 ounces and they said he was 31.5 inches tall, but I think he is taller.  Benjamin weighed 23 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 31 inches tall.  They are both continuing to grow, which I like to hear.  The doctor told us again that they look very healthy.  Their physical development is great, since they are both walking (and running), and can climb everything in sight.  The doctor did notice their various bumps and bruises, which we have just become so accustomed to seeing that we barely see them anymore!

I still have concerns about the fact that they aren't talking, but the doctor said he is willing to wait a little bit longer before we call early intervention.  To be honest, my "gut" tells me that nothing is wrong- if it said otherwise I would be pushing for early intervention right now.  But both boys can clearly hear just fine, and can understand some of what we say.  They do communicate, and they both babble.  They are very interactive, and love to make eye contact.  We are trying to work on getting them to say some words, but it doesn't seem to appeal to them yet.  I think I would be more worried if all of their same-age friends were talking up a storm, but most of the other children we know their age are not really talking yet, either.  So we'll see.  We are working on getting them to say more, ball, cat, mama, and dada/daddy right now.

Other than that, we had a wonderful visit with Eric's family up in Maine, which will have to get its own post, with pictures.  We went swimming, ate ice cream, and played with family- the perfect summer trip!

  1. Hi Rebecca - I'm a fellow MoM from The Bump (which is how I first found out about your blog). Your first paragraph describes exactly how I am feeling right now as well. I have 12 month old (just turned 1 last week!) twin boys. I love reading other twins blogs around my boys age to see if I can learn from everyone else's experiences. I have been keeping up with my blog since I was 12 weeks pregnant. I love how much I've documented everything through blog postings and I would like to keep my blog open to fellow MoM's but hate the fact that anyone can get read it. I've tried to keep things pretty general by mentioning our first names only and setting up as many security settings to remove my blog from showing up in search engines but I still don't feel that's enough in this day-in-age.
No real point to this comment, I just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one feeling that way! All the best to you & your boys.

  2. I have my blog set to private..and while it makes me feel more comfortable, it does make me a little sad because a lot of people don't bother to check out my blog because they have to log in. My inlaws even don't check as often as I would think they would otherwise. :) Just something to think about...I know I waver back and forth all the time about making it public or not!
